Literature Text

Lightly dancing on
a tip of the leaf
Close to the edge
like in a dream

Faster and faster
she swirled around
Everyone's watching
but nobody found
A reason to tell it
would be over soon

When she grows up
loses her youth

For now she keeps singing
believes in her dreams
Not old enough yet
to slip off the leaves

I based this poem on a quote of Tagore

'Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time like dew on the tip of a leaf.'

My poem is about a young girl who doesn’t know about the bad things in life yet.
She’s lovely, sweet and maybe a bit naïve, dancing on the edge of the leaves before time learned her about all bad things.
But for now people don’t tell her and let her enjoy the youth and be careless.

The composition here is what I like the most: 4-6-2-4 and a perfect rhyme - it actually sounds like dancing. And you found the right words to describe the dance, that dance of innocence we all need to go through. That's why I like the "A tip of THE leaf" part - the leaf is the life itself, our life, human life, and her particular youth is just one side of it. Also, the way 3rd stance stands alone can make the reader feel the winter of old age, and may be the main reason this poem has such a huge impact.
